A train-dispatcher exempted thanks to ReDat

Ladislav Tomek, a train-dispatcher from Vraňany, region Mělnik, certainly appreciated that the Czech Railways have decided to implement recording system ReDat in the past. In accordance to formal accusation, in March 2007, he did not stop operation on given train-track and he failed to avoid the collision of the train with a car on a grade crossing near Vraňany. Generally, in similar cases would both interested parties quarrel about exact wording of the call, which should have alerted the train dispatcher for an obstacle on the train-track. Thanks to ReDat Recording System used by the Czech Railways, the court could, however, rely on the telephone conversation record conducted by police officer and the train dispatcher.

The judge, Lenka Mrázková, persuaded that the initial information forwarded through a phone by police officer to Mr. Tomko was not sufficient. On the other hand, public prosecutor thought that the information forwarded by the police was sufficient. "Notification that barrier is located on the main train-track between Lužec and Horní Beřkovice is accurate and complete, because it was made by person who does not work with railways," said the public prosecutor.

The judge, however, did not agree. "It was not as accurate in the sense that I could deduce the accusation's improper doing," explained after the end of the trial Mss. Lenka Mrázková. She pointed out unfortunate misunderstanding between both men.
